JUNE 2 SPEAKER:  Joey Laus, Speech Therapist, UCSF

OTHER ANNOUNCEMENTS: 
 
1. Currently we are seeking out volunteers to step into a couple of PSGSC positions that will be opening up in 2019.  We are hoping that these positions can be filled prior to next year so that the volunteers can be mentored for the rest of this year. 
1) E-MAIL COORDINATOR is mainly responsible for getting out emails to our members and maintaining the email list.

2) TREASURER is responsible for being a Board Member, paying bills, making deposits, and working with an accountant (to be hired by the Board) who will produce monthly and annual reports. Monthly time commitment is approximately 3 hours per month which includes the 2 hour Board Meeting the 3rd Wed. of every month from 10:00 to 12:00. Sandy Grant will be making sure that these volunteers have all the help needed to do the jobs. 

2. THREE SCHOLARSHIP OFFERINGS: One of the purposes of PSGSC is to promote activities which benefit the Parkinson's Community. We are particularly committed to advocating for the wellness of People with Parkinson's (PWP). The PSGSC Board has decided to extend our support to LSVT-LOUD, a speech therapy program, PARKINSON'S VOICE THERAPY (a program created by the Swain Center), and LSVT-BIG, a movement therapy program. ALL are designed for PWP given by trained and certified professionals. PSGSC has set aside limited tuition scholarship funding. Flyers will be available on the table at each meeting that explains the commitment involved in each program. Please let us know if you are interested and we can get the process started for you.

CREATIVE MOVEMENT/DANCE CLASS                                                        
Our Parkinson's Support Group of Sonoma County is sponsoring a creative movement class modeled on the Dance for PD program developed by the Mark Morris Dance Group and the Brooklyn Parkinson Group. 
DAYS:   Every  SECOND & FOURTH THURSDAYS of the month  
TIME:    1:30-2:30 (Come early to get ready and stay for refreshments after)

- We now have some more Tulip Pins, (the tulip is the symbol for PD) selling for $5.00. They will be available at our meetings.
 
5. Don't forget to check our LIBRARY for new books/materials/clinical trials info/DVD's of past speakers/etc. If you have any books checked out, please return them when you are finished. 
 
6. The  DONATION JAR sent around at our general meetings helps PSGSC pay for the monthly meeting rental, storage space and mailing address at the church, plus speaker stipends, copying of materials, dance/singing classes, scholarships, etc. We have NO dues or membership fees. Thanks for your monthly donations!

MAY 5 SPEAKER:   Lisa Oei, DPT... Topic: Exercise Options... Lisa works exclusively with Parkinson’s disease, and she bases much of her work on PWR (Parkinson's Wellness Recovery) and"Delay the Disease." She is the founder and driving force of "PD-Connect" in Marin County.  She received her Doctorate Degree in Physical Therapy from UCSF.

1. Currently we are seeking out volunteers to step into a couple of PSGSC positions that will be opening up in 2019.  We are hoping that these positions can be filled prior to next year so that the volunteers can be mentored for the rest of this year. 
1) EMail Coordinator is mainly responsible for getting out emails to our members and maintaining the email list.
2) Treasurer/Accountant is responsible for paying bills, filing annual non-profit reports, producing monthly financials to the board and being a board member.  Quickbooks experience is preferable, but not necessary.
Sandy Grant will be making sure that these volunteers have all the help needed to do the jobs.  Volunteering for PSGSC is the easiest way to get acquainted with all of our members, help implement new programs and use the group to its greatest advantage.

1. On Sat. Feb. 24, over 40 people signed up for ParkinsonWise Training at Kaiser. This training is to educate fitness and wellness communities about Parkinson's Disease and how to work effectively with people with Parkinson's. Upon completion of the training, you will be able to find their names and businesses on both the PANC and PSGSC websites as a resource for our local PD community.

Holiday Music will be with Rob Ellis, our great pianist with the Dance for PD Group. Come and join us for food, music, and good conversation.
