CALL TO ORDER: The regular meeting of the Board of Directors of the Parkinson’s Support Group of Sonoma County (PSGSC) was called to order at 10:10 a.m. by Chair/President Kathy Osbun.
TREASURER’S REPORT: Treasurer Sandy Grant reported for November 2012 income of $155.25 from the meeting donation jar, $192.00 from the Mary’s Pizza fund raiser, $25.28 in Tulip Pin sales, $1.55 bank interest, and a $1,000.00 donation from Kathy’s mom, May Beth Greenway. Expenses were $100.00 for the December rent of the meeting place.
Sandy reported that she would be meeting in January with accounting consultant Linda Rosen regarding several matters including federal and state financial reporting requirements.
LIBRARY MATERIALS: The board discussed the need to add new books & other materials to the PSGSC Library. On a motion by Arlene Irizary and seconded by David Getzoff the board unanimously approved a measure proposed by Art Rosenblum to authorize board officers to spend up to $100.00 for such items as books for the PSGSC library and printing materials.
PARKINSON ASSOCIATION OF NORTHERN CALIFORNIA (PANC): On a motion by Sandy Grant, seconded by David Getzoff, the Board unanimously approved a donation of $500 to the reopening of the PANC office in Sacramento. For several years PANC has funded the PSGSC liability insurance for the monthly meeting place. Such coverage is estimated to cost $800 to $1,000 per year if purchased individually rather than under the umbrella of PANC.
TULIP PIN FUND RAISER: Sandy Grant reported that only 15 pins need to be sold before the fund raiser breaks even. Kathy Osbun said she will be turning over to Sandy money she has received for pins, making the break-even goal even closer.
LARGE DONATION ACKNOWLEDGED: Kathy Osbun reported the donation of $1,000 to PSGSC from Victoria Edwards Hamilton of the Edwards Foundation in San Diego. An acknowledgement and thank you letter is to be sent to Ms. Hamilton.
BROCHURE: In connection with a new printing of the PSGSC brochure, it was decided by consensus to drop the listing of the Oakmont satellite support group, which appears to be on its own and no longer working in conjunction with the primary PSGSC organization. The Petaluma satellite support group will continue as a listed resource. Contacts for that group will be Lance Cerny (707 765-1117) and the Petaluma Senior Center (707 778-4349).
The full list of resources will include the Women’s Group, Men’s Group, Exercise Group, Petaluma Group and the Redwood Caregivers Resource Center. Long-time PSGSC member Doug Schwartz has offered to revise the brochure. On the motion of Suzanne deKozan, seconded by Sandy Grant, the Board also authorized the expenditure of up to $300 for the printing of 1,000 brochures.
AWARE IN CARE OUTREACH: Suzanne deKozan reported that Sonoma State University Master’s degree nursing student Ryan Roberts is available to show a power point presentation on the importance of Parkinson’s patients receiving their medication all the time and on time when admitted to a hospital or other medical facility. The presentation to the Board will be scheduled for 15 to 20 minutes at the January Board meeting.
SOUND SYSTEM: Tabled was a decision on how to retire the PSGSC’s malfunctioning microphone/amplifier sound system.
DATA BASE: The Board is seeking a volunteer to take over the PSGSC membership contact list, which is on an Excel program.
PROGRAMS: Program Coordinator Arlene Irizary reported that the next general meeting on February 2nd will feature Dr. Matthew Arnold, a movement disorders neurologist with a private practice in Berkeley.
