Call to Order:
The regular meeting of the Board of Directors of the Parkinson’s Support Group of Sonoma County (PSGSC) was called to order by Chair, Kathy Osbun at 10:00 a.m.
Approval of Minutes:
The minutes of the September 21, 2016 Board meeting were approved as read.
Treasurer’s Report:
There was not a general meeting in September so there was little financial activity. The income included $.81 interest and $96.93 from Oliver’s Community card. The expenses were $436.00 for Dance for PD, $75.86 for meeting supplies, $250.00 for rental of the meeting room which is now paid through December and $143.00 for the singing group.
The net income for the month was ($807.12) and net income for the year is $714.25. Cash accounts total $38,027.65. Art verified that all account statements match bank statements.
Sandy G. also reported that she has begun to participate in Amazon’s Smile program. This program gives a small percentage of purchase price of goods to a designated non-profit. She will send out an email to the membership, explaining this program and how to go about signing up for it. This program is very similar to the Oliver’s Community Card that gives 3% of grocery purchases to designated non-profits. Sandy G. will also remind members of the Oliver’s program.
Programs:
Dance for PD: In Nancy’s absence Sandy G. reported that attendance has dropped off a bit in the Dance for PD class and that they were thinking about ways to revitalize attendance. The attendance has dropped from around 30 to around 20 because several of the early supporters have had to drop the class due to increased frailty or other health issues. Sandy G. and Nancy would like to do another presentation at a general meeting and the instructors and musician are willing to do this. It seems likely that Dave Iverson is going to speak at the March meeting and this would be a perfect match for a Dance for PD demonstration. Kathy will ask Marc about this combination.
Singing class:
After a slight downturn in attendance the numbers have been increasing. Jamie is very helpful in coming up with ideas to improve the class.
Speakers:
Maya Katz MD of UCSF and the VA will speak at the November meeting on mood, cognition and sleep disorders in PD. In December we will have the annual Holiday Party. Sandy G will ask Rob Ellis, the musician for the Dance for PD class to provide music and accompany a holiday sing along. The party will be on December 10th, the 2nd Saturday of the month.
Marc has already lined up a number of speakers for 2017. These include Dr. Nandipati and Allison Low in February; Dave Iverson in February and Dr. Alisa Liguori, a local psychologist who will speak on mindfulness practice in March.
Recruiting new Board members: John has spoken to Christina Gore about joining the Board. She is quite busy for 2016 but has interest in joining the Board in 2017. John will discuss this with her further. Gloria also has a possible candidate and will follow up with him.
Date Base:
Gloria said that there were 77 attendees at the October meeting. Two were new PWP and 4 were caregivers.
Movement Disorder Specialist:
Marc is compiling a list of Movement Disorder Specialists in the entire Bay area. This will be very helpful information for our members.
Fundraising:
Kathy heard from Mary’s Pizza Dine and Donate program that we earned $54 and Sandy G. received a $50 additional individual donation.
Kathy has received more theatre tickets. The tickets are for three consecutive weekends beginning October 21 with a Friday and Saturday evening performance and a Sunday afternoon matinee. The production is Dial M for Murder and tickets will be 2 for $30.
LSVT LOUD Scholarship:
So far there has been one response to our scholarship offer and he has decided to do the program through his Kaiser Health Plan. Two others have chosen to do the Memorial Program but they have not contacted Sandy G. about a Scholarship to help with any portion of it.
It will be necessary for those who choose to do the program to contact Sandy G. before we can begin the scholarship assistance. Sandy G. will make up a form that records participation so that she has paperwork for the financial transactions. We will also ask for notice from the various programs that the participants are engaged in the program.
We will discuss enlarging the scholarship program offerings at the November Board meeting.
Available medical equipment:
We have received a notice from Arlene Irizary that the family of a former member has various medical equipment available to anyone who may need it. Sandy G. will send out an email to the membership.
Adjournment:
The meeting was adjourned at 11:30 a.m. by Chair, Kathy Osbun. The next Board meeting will be November 16, 2016 at the Brush Creek Senior Living.
Respectfully submitted,
Barbara France, Recording Secretary
