Call to Order:
The regular meeting of the Board of Directors of the Parkinson’s Support Group of
Sonoma County (PSGSC) was called to order by Chair, Kathy Osbun at 10:00 a.m.
Resignations:
Kathy has received resignations from both Davida and Ed Brautman. Recent health
problems have made their continued participation difficult. Kathy thanked both on behalf of the Board for their time on the Board and wished the best for both.
Approval of Minutes:
The Minutes of the July 20, 2016 Board meeting were approved as read.
Treasurer’s Report:
Sandy G. reported that income for the month included $.74 interest, $46.16 from
Oliver’s Community Card and $36.00 from ticket sales to the Mikado. Total income for the month was $82.94. Expenses were $123.00 for the Singing Group. We received and individual donation to the Dance for PD Class so there was a positive $293.00 for the Dance for PD Class.
Net income was $252.94 for July and $1256.12 from January to July. Cash accounts total $38,560.56.
Art verified that all submitted statements match bank statements.
Nancy made the motion to accept the Treasurer’s Report. The motion was seconded by John and passed on a voice vote.
Programs:
Dance for PD Class: Nancy reported that a photographer had been to a class session to take pictures which will be used to advertise the class on post cards. These cards will tell a bit about the class and list the class schedule. They continue to practice their routine that will be filmed for inclusion in the Mark Morris film on Dance for PD.
Singing Class: Jaime won’t be at the upcoming Friday class but it will meet with John leading the class.
Men’s Breakfast Group: Due to the length of Dr. Santini’s talk at the last meeting there were no break out groups so the facilitators were not able to gauge interest in continuing the group. Sandy G sent out a notice about the group and asked for those interested to respond. There was only one response.
Speakers: Mark said that Dr. Nandipati, the new Movements Disorder Specialist at Kaiser San Rafael, will speak at the February 2017 meeting.
Facilitators: Marc will facilitate one break out group and John and/or Ann will take the second group at the October meeting.
Library:
Marie Kay said that interest remains high in the Library and it all seems to stem from the
book reports that Sandy G. sends out once a month. Sandy G. said that she will soon be in need of more reports.
Fundraising:
October 5th will be the Mary’s Dine and donate fundraiser. Coupons and notices will be
sent out nearer the date.
How to spend our money:
In order to figure out how we can present our scholarship support for the LSVT LOUD
and BIG classes Gloria has spoken to both Robert Leavitt and Deborah Swain about our plan to offer scholarship aid for their programs. They both indicated that they would be willing to help with this project but they wanted to know how we were going to structure our aid. They also felt that the recipient should be responsible for a co-pay portion. Marc added that the Samples program was waiting to see what the Leavitt and Swain participation would be.
There was a discussion of how to present this to the membership. The options included presenting all the wellness programs at once so that member could choose from all offerings or offer just LSVT LOUD because it is the most complicated and expensive, and as a result, it will most likely have the fewest people that would ultimately be commit to thee required qualifications. Sandy G. made a motion to get out information on the LSVT LOUD program to the whole PSGSC membership to gauge response. Sandy Barrett seconded the motion which was passed on a voice vote with two abstentions.
Kathy, Gloria and Nancy will put together information on the LSVT LOUD program and our scholarship aid. It will be emphasized that there are extensive requirements that each person will have to research and evaluate before deciding they would like to participate. After this email is sent out to the PSGSC membership we will wait a month to see how many are interested in the program. Depending on the response we will then bring forward other options for scholarship aid.
Movements Disorder Specialist:
Dr. Sirsha Nandipati is taking appointments at Kaiser in San Rafael. She is available
only to Kaiser patients and they must be referred by their primary care physicians or their current neurologist. We will send out an email to the membership with this information. Several members have been active in lobbying Dr. Khandhar to bring a Specialist to our area. This is a great first reward for such efforts.
Adjournment:
The meeting was adjourned at 12:00 p.m. by Chair, Kathy Osbun. The next Board
meeting will be September 21, 2016 at the Brush Creek Senior Living.
Respectfully submitted,
Barbara France, Recording Secretary
