CALL TO ORDER: Chair Kathy Osbun called the meeting to order at 10:05 a.m.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Kathy Osbun read the minutes from the meeting of July 20, 2011. The minutes were approved as read.
As there was no meeting in July, there was no income from the donation jar, which is passed around during meetings. The only expense during July was $74.41 to Suzanne de Kozan, reimbursement for a Nolo Press book on incorporation and postage for packets sent to the county’s hospitals regarding the dispensing of medications to patients with Parkinson’s Disease. As of July 31, 2011, savings, checking and a CD total $23,053.58.
PROGRAMS: No general meeting is held in September. The next general meeting will be October 1, 2011. The subject will be the Lee Silverman Voice Therapy (LSVT) program, a neurologist-recommended strategy for dealing with Parkinson’s related speech issues.
WOMEN’S GROUP: Suzanne de Kozan reported that all women listed in the Parkinson’s Support Group data base will be invited to the new Women’s Group, which will hold its second meeting at space provided at the American Cancer Society building on Guerneville Road west of Coddingtown. They will try to provide rides where needed.
LETTERS TO HOSPITALS: Suzanne de Kozan said she and Davis Brown are waiting for responses from hospitals throughout the county that have been sent letters concerning how medications are administered to patients with Parkinson’s Disease.
FUND RAISER: Kathy Osbun updated the Board on a fund raiser scheduled for Wednesday, October 5, at Mary’s Pizza on Summerfield Road. Twenty percent of customer purchases of food or beverage on that date, including takeout meals, will go to the Parkinson’s Support Group of Sonoma County, as long as the customer shows up with a valid flyer promoting the event. Flyers will be made available via Email and at the October general meeting.
TRI-POD: Bud Suiter was authorized to purchase a Tri-Pod for “less than $50.00, perhaps a used one. The tri-pod is used during filming of program speakers. An integral part is missing from the existing tri-pod.
UPCOMING CONFERENCES: The board approved the Emailing of announcements of two upcoming conferences in San Francisco, one sponsored by UCSF and the other by the National Parkinson Foundation.
YOGA/DANCE INSTRUCTION: Regarding a proposal by Yoga instructor who is developing a grant to provide dance instruction for people with Parkinson’s, the board withheld a decision pending a reading of the grant proposal to evaluate PSGSC’s involvement.
